Description

This Study Guide for Laura Esquivel’s Como agua para chocolate helps students to understand the book for themselves, observing important themes and forming opinions about characters and events.

What is the aim of the resource?

For each of the twelve chapters in the book, there is a Spanish-English vocabulary grid, a research task, comprehension questions and analysis questions.

The research tasks are designed to help students understand the context of the story (Mexican history, Mexican cuisine, and Mexican culture).

The comprehension questions are designed to be answered in English. The purpose of these is to make sure students understand what is happening all the way through each chapter and, most importantly, to ensure they don’t miss anything important.

The analysis questions are designed to be answered in Spain, in a group discussion. The purpose of these is to help students express their reactions to the development of the characters and the events. They also draw students’ attention to emerging themes and literary techniques.

    • Vocabulary grid for each chapter
